At ModulesGarden we have spent years pushing WHMCS further than it was ever originally meant to go. But anyone who runs a web hosting business knows that extending the system is only half the job. The other half is understanding what all the numbers flowing through it are actually trying to tell you. And this is precisely the space MetricsCube has been exploring for the WHMCS world.

We are absolutely proud to share that our collaboration with MetricsCube is moving to a much deeper level. By bringing WHMCS automation and advanced business analytics closer together, we are making it far easier for companies to finally see how much of their future has been written in the data all along.

A new perspective on WHMCS analytics

MetricsCube has been around the WHMCS scene long enough to know exactly where the most interesting answers about your business are hiding. What started as a way to keep an eye on numbers gradually became something far more strategic: a way to understand patterns that rarely reveal themselves when you look at raw data alone.

To make the full potential of the platform easier to grasp, MetricsCube has launched a redesigned website together with a refreshed plan structure. With the range of features now clearly laid out, from core analytics capabilities to newer additions such as the Self-Hosted Data Connection, different levels of insight are much easier to see and compare.

A detail many companies will notice right away is the brand-new Starter plan. It’s the lowest entry point MetricsCube has ever offered, making professional WHMCS analytics accessible without setting a full-scale reporting engine going from day one. Companies can start small, experiment with the platform at their own pace, and grow into deeper insights once they begin to read the rhythm running through their numbers.

Of course, when plans get this much better structured, pricing rarely stays where it was. MetricsCube used the moment to introduce promotional prices across all updated plans, which makes this a very convenient excuse to find out what secrets the platform can reveal about your business.

What this means for our community

All of these developments already make MetricsCube worth a closer look, but this update adds another layer of benefits that bring the platform closer to our customers and make access to serious analytics both easier and more affordable.

The first real outcome of this closer partnership is already here in the form of the updated MetricsCube Connector For WHMCS, now fully compatible with the next-gen WHMCS 9.X environment. It introduces a one-click onboarding flow that handles account setup and integration automatically. Once installed, access to MetricsCube reports can be launched directly from within WHMCS, creating a much more natural bridge between your billing system and your analytics environment.

The next change is even more practical.

As part of the closer collaboration between our teams the MetricsCube Connector is now included directly inside ModulesGarden module packages. Rather than searching for additional integrations, the connector is already there, ready to be activated whenever you decide to step into deeper reporting.

And because good collaborations deserve a proper welcome,
we’ve prepared a bonus for our community!

Our users are now picking up an additional 25% OFF on every MetricsCube plan, even the new Starter, and the discount stacks with the special pricing already available on the website. Simply put, you get MetricsCube even cheaper than it already is!

Promo Code: WHMCS25%_MC

With the new onboarding process in the connector, activating this offer is extremely simple. You can either use our dedicated promo code during signup or access the platform through this special link that applies the discount automatically.

A partnership built around better decisions

In the end, the most interesting part of running a web hosting company is not only building the infrastructure that keeps it alive, but also learning how to read the signals your own business sends every day.

With ModulesGarden and MetricsCube working more closely together, the WHMCS ecosystem gains a new way to look at those signals. The tools that power your operations and the insights that explain them are starting to meet in the same place. For many companies that small shift may eventually change the way they think about growth.

If you’d like to see how the MetricsCube team describes this milestone from their unique perspective, we encourage you to explore their latest announcement.

And if curiosity gets the better of you, remember that the extra 25% discount still stacks with the promotional prices currently available on the MetricsCube website!

Go MetricsCube!

Today, MetricsCube is far from being a new find among software solutions geared toward business intelligence. It has tightly integrated into the fabric of WHMCS community, becoming the go-to tool for analyzing complex data spectrum. A quick dive into the robust offering of reports and analysis options in MetricsCube explains the ongoing popularity of this platform. How did it evolve from a fledgling tool to a powerful reporting machinery, equipped with a Live Dashboard, customizable Email Summaries, and various other aids for understanding your business? Let’s explore this journey.

2018 MetricsCube emerged from the frustration of those seeking more from WHMCS reports. Chances are, you’ve been one of them. We were too! Being the leading provider of WHMCS software development in the web hosting industry, with nearly 40,000 customers, we couldn’t escape the sense that the default tools fall short for effective and timely data analysis. The dynamics shifted once we started using MetricsCube, offering at first 40 key reports that the WHMCS community desperately needed. And it only got better from there.

„The release of MetricsCube is a huge milestone that, we believe, will change the whole web hosting and eCommerce industries for the better.”

In addition to expanding the repertoire of advanced reports to over 60, MetricsCube became a tool that lightens the daily data analysis load on your team. All under your watchful eye. With customizable access control for each user, your team can delve into the reports you choose to share, plus enter such critical sections of your system like billing settings or invoices.

2019 After several updates broadening the range of available reports, MetricsCube reached another crucial milestone. Thanks to it, you can view not one, but multiple reports at once by displaying them all on a single graph. The Combine Reports tool unlocks a whole new level of understanding and interaction with your everyday business data. Want specific insight into the relationship between your monthly revenue and churn rates? MetricsCube has got you covered.

2020 Every successful business starts with its customers. The folks at MetricsCube understand this well, which is why they have equipped the platform with a smart Client Profiling functionality. It offers a holistic overview of essential information, ranging from the services the customer has to the income they have generated. You can keep your client base well organized with adjustable tags and comments, plus benefit from a convenient on-hover tooltip for instant access to customer data across the entire MetricsCube.

2021 MetricsCube stepped into its third year of development with a growing collection of reports, but 2021 had much more in store. That is when the platform introduced the groundbreaking Live Dashboard, summarizing essential business insights into visually appealing widgets. Real-time monitoring is proven to drastically reduce the hours spent analyzing data from multiple pockets of information. What a relief!

If you thought Monthly Recurring Revenue was a simple metric, think again. MetricsCube’s newly introduced MRR Breakdown section reveals the layered nature of monthly revenue, allowing in-depth analysis of your recurring income.

2022 Constantly anxious about missing critical trends in your company’s daily life? As part of MericsCube’s features, Email Summaries deliver immediate and effortless insight into your business straight to your mailbox, anywhere you are. You are free to tailor the emails as you see fit by controlling the content, frequency, and even the individual recipients.

Staying on top of finances is crucial, even if you’re not an accountant. MetricsCube’s premium Financial Reports make this routine effortless. Cheers to a good habit of reviewing your finances on a regular basis!

2023 A groundbreaking moment arrived with an entirely new integration channel. Not just syncing WHMCS data into MetricsCube, but also the other way around, enriching your WHMCS admin area with several entirely fresh sets of data concerning your customers, services, domains, and more.

2024 This brings us to the latest (so far!) stop on MetricsCube’s dynamic road of development. After a few months of hard work backstage, the team dropped a major update that makes everything better, down to the tiniest bits. Result? Your queries, big or small, now have answers! All credit goes to numerous investments in functional optimization, enhanced support services, and all-new documentation that offers a deep dive into the platform’s knowledge.

We leave you to enjoy navigating MetricsCube’s data-packed corners, hoping that after this stroll down memory lane, one thing is clear: those hard-to-reach data and insights you can’t access without MetricsCube are often the ones you need for making the right business decisions. Time to blow the whistle on guesswork!

Go MetricsCube!

Just recently, Zonat S.A. agreed to join us in a brief chat, and spilled some beans on what it’s like to work with ModulesGarden for almost half a decade. Have a compelling reading!

ModulesGarden: Why did you choose ModulesGarden?

Zonat S.A.: We use ModulesGarden because using existing and tested tools makes life much easier for us. Instead of spending time planning and developing digital tools, we simply use one of yours – especially since you offer a 7-day free trial!

ModulesGarden: Which of our products would you say have helped you the most in your business?

Zonat S.A.: We regularly acquire other hosting businesses using WHMCS, so we like using Multibrand For WHMCS from ModulesGarden. It works like a charm and makes it easy for use to integrate different brands under one umbrella. Our sales team also loves the CRM For WHMCS from ModulesGarden because it makes following up with leads and potentials very easy. In the past, we used to use other CRM systems, but the direct integration in WHMCS is definitely an advantage.

ModulesGarden: Multibrand For WHMCS is our flagship product for companies that oversee lots of different brands. How exactly do you use it to grow your business?

Zonat S.A.: We use Multibrand to group all our websites like http://luxhosting.lu or http://www.hosting.co.uk so we can manage them all from one platform. WHMCS has been a gamechanger for the hosting industry, but when we first started using it, we didn’t have Multibrand. That meant we had to have separate domains for payment, and it was more difficult to build custom products for each brand. Now that we have Multibrand, we can have a similar domain for payment for all our brands, and we can easily create custom products. This speeds up the innovation process, and it’s been a huge relief to be able to quickly bring more of our ideas to life.

ModulesGarden: Does Multibrand For WHMCS help with your customer support process?

Zonat S.A.: Multibrand has streamlined our customer support system, and it’s a huge part of the reason we’ve been able to keep our clients so happy. If you’re in charge of multiple brands, you know how difficult it can be to keep track of everything you’re doing for each brand, and when you add customers to the mix, things can get downright unwieldy. But because we use Multibrand, our customer support ticketing system is completely centralised. All the messages come in under one dashboard, and we can clearly see which brand the customer is contacting us from. This makes things a lot easier, because none of our customers get left behind, and we can quickly address issues before they end up snowballing and costing us our reputation.

ModulesGarden: And how has Mulitbrand For WHMCS helped with your emailing process?

Zonat S.A.: We actually use Multibrand’s emailing features almost daily. Zonat S.A. is constantly acquiring new brands, and it’s really important to us that we don’t lose productivity and efficiency as we get bigger. The Multibrand feature from ModulesGarden makes it really easy to send emails from multiple brands. We love that when we’re sending an email, there’s actually a field called “Brands” that brings up all our brands when we click on it. That way, we can send a mass email from all our brands at the same time. This feature saves so much time, because without it, we’d be forced to send emails from one brand at a time, or we’d need several licenses for all our brands.

ModulesGarden: Earlier in our conversation, you said you also love using our CRM For WHMCS tool. What’s your favorite thing about it?

Zonat S.A.: We love how much control we have over it. It’s so flexible and easy to tailor to our needs. Your company updates the tool constantly, and every change that’s made to it always makes sense. The change log makes it easy to keep track of all the changes, as well. And because it’s open source, if we notice that there’s some feature from which our team would benefit, we can mention it in the forum, and your team will get right on it. Or if we’re so inclined, we can even have our development team work on something and then share it with you. Making your CRM open source was truly an inspired move, and it makes it so much easier to innovate.

ModulesGarden: In general, what’s been your experience working with ModulesGarden?

Zonat S.A.: At Zonat, we’re big on innovation and growth. We’re in tech, so we can’t afford to stay in the same place, or we’ll quickly get left behind by newer, hungrier companies. So, we really appreciate working with a company that values innovation and progress as well. It’s easy to work with you because our values are so well aligned. At ModulesGarden, you’re constantly creating new software for billing and management. And you have such a large offering of products that whenever we want software with a special feature that will make our business run more smoothly, we always check ModulesGarden first, because chances are, you’ve already developed it. And your team responds really quickly to requests, so on the off chance that we want something you haven’t gotten around to creating yet, all we have to do is ask. And having that kind of safety net helps our company feel more confident as we soar to higher heights.

ModulesGarden: Thanks for meeting with us.
Zonat S.A.: Always a pleasure.

And there you have it!

Zonat S.A. is a fast-growing, innovative company that manages multiple brands with the help of the modules we create here at ModulesGarden, hand in hand with EasyDCIM’s data center management panel and MetricsCube’s advanced reporting tool. Think of how much time your company could save using such a productivity boosting equipment! Don’t waste time making new software from scratch if you can check out our products first. You might be surprised to find that we’ve already created the perfect piece of software to take your company to the next level!

My professional life has revolved around the web hosting industry for nearly 10 years, focusing primarily on billing system integrations like WHMCS. With ModulesGarden, we’ve provided development services for over thousands of projects, created hundreds of official modules for WHMCS, and have had the pleasure of working with small to corporate-level customers in nearly every country across the globe. Much to my pride, this wealth of direct experience has been recently brought into a completely new game-changing project.

Two weeks ago, together with my INBS.Software team we released MetricsCube – a data analytics tool providing a completely new approach for web hosting companies to help them keep better track of their venture. Starting with comprehensive WHMCS integration, our mission is to deliver a new level of reporting and monitoring tool in sync with the most widely respected web applications. A must-have solution for anyone who strives to grow their company and need extra supplies of data to make significant business decisions.

It is super easy to access at a glance your most important reports!

Why did I decide to create MetricsCube?

I have been using WHMCS on a few businesses myself, but throughout my entire professional journey, I was never able to get quick access to the important metrics and have a clear vision of what is currently happening. Things tend to get more and more complicated when your business is growing, and you can easily lose track of what is actually going on. As a business owner you want to focus on crucial operations, and finding spare time to build a complex reporting tool is always a tough task. You’d rather spend this time on something else, wouldn’t you?

In the meantime, we had lots of inquiries from our clients who shared the same burning need for a more advanced data analysis tool. The default WHMCS reporting is good for starters, but eventually becomes a pain for any subscription business because of the lack of more complex reports like MRR, LTV or Churn.

Having that in mind, we’ve decided to develop a SaaS platform that will serve both us and our clients at once!

What makes MetricsCube so valuable for web hosting companies?

Similar solutions like Chartmogul or Baremetrics offer very poor or no connection with WHMCS whatsoever. They often don’t provide well crafted integration with any of the popular web applications at all. Our unique approach lies in having strong, dedicated integration with different systems, starting with WHMCS. Given our 10-year experience in the web hosting industry, we are determined to expand this list through building integrations with cPanel and Plesk – driven by the goal not to limit our reports to just financial data analysis.

We know what reports are the most valuable for web hosting companies and we aim to deliver them!

MetricsCube includes more reports directed towards a web hosting company than any other solution on the market!

Is MetricsCube useful for a small company?

Absolutely! This might be one of the biggest mistakes that small businesses make – they assume that because they are not a huge enterprise yet, those complex, and often intimidating reports don’t really matter. Wrong! Small companies are expected to grow more than any other businesses. And if you want to thrive, you need to know what’s going on!

In terms of pricing, we have tried to make the model as much flexible as possible. If you feel that $24.95 per month amounts to overkill, and your business is just starting up, do not hesitate to drop us an email at contact@metricscube.io. At one time we too were in the “start-up” phase, and we know very well how important it is to keep the costs low in the outset. We want to help small companies to evolve and succeed!

What if you’re not that much into numbers?

We are aware that many reports are not entirely clear to everyone. Considering that the data analysis itself is not quite popular in the web hosting industry, especially among the small companies, we want to educate! My goal is to prepare a series of Blog articles explaining the most valuable metrics for any subscription business. If you are looking for more resources, and want to extend your knowledge in this domain, go visit our Blog at: https://www.metricscube.io/blog/ where I’ll be posting new articles every 1-2 weeks.

Not sure what the report is about? A single peek at the extra comment and you get the hang of it!

What is our next move?

The official launch is merely the first on the long list of milestones we want to reach in the next couple of months. Before we move on to integration with other systems, however, we focus on further extending the connection with WHMCS:

At least 70 built-in reports for WHMCS – We plan to introduce around 5 new reports every few weeks.

Multibrand functionality – Having more than one system? No problem, you can monitor all your brands under a single account.

Subaccounts – You can invite your employees and choose what reports or brands they have access to.

Extra comparing tool – With Multibrand support, you will be able to easily compare data from all your businesses.

Expenses tracking – YES, the system will let you define expenses as well as calculate NET revenues and extra reports to monitor your spendings!

… and lots more:

Two-factor authentication

PDF export

Forecasting

Trendlines

Favourite reports

Custom dashboards

Goals

Comments on graphs

Not only as a founder, but mostly as an active enjoyer of MetricsCube, I send out an open invitation to give this very practical tool a try. Make a lightning-fast analysis of your business and discover its strengths you never knew even existed!

Web hosting companies sell most of their services in the recurring billing model. Monitoring of such a business requires specialized metrics focused on tracing the growth in multiple dimensions. Lots of companies are not even aware of many measures crucial for analysis of a subscription business model, mostly because their billing systems, e.g. WHMCS, don’t offer these sorts of built-in reports. Therefore, I’ve decided to bring up the most important billing reports for web hosting companies that are worth noticing.

First of all, you have to realize that monitoring of your regular income on a month-to-month basis will not give you a full picture.

Taking this into account, if you want your web hosting company to grow and succeed, you need to:

Increase your MRR – it does not always mean immediate growth of the NET income!

Increase the value of your users – in both the short and long run,

Reduce churn – not only the revenue churn, but also the subscription and customer churn.

In order to make proper decisions about the above factors, you need to keep track of multiple metrics. It is also extremely important to compare the results in custom time intervals (e.g. quarter to quarter), as well as be able to filter them by products or customer groups. Below you will find the key measures, which, in my opinion, you should trace on a daily basis.

Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR)

MRR is a report that indicates how much money you can expect from your active subscriptions. Typically, if your client base increases, or the value of an individual customer does, the MRR metric strongly and steadily grows. However, generating new sales is not the only method to increase MRR. Acquiring new clients is thought to be more expensive than maintaining the existing ones, so you may consider increasing the income of your current customers instead!

An example of a steady and stable growth of MRR. The higher it is, the better condition of a company and the higher its value.

Average Revenue Per User (ARPU)

ARPU defines how much revenue you get from one active client on average. Customers having only free trial, one-time or free products do not impact ARPU, so it’s related to the subscription model only. Usually, ARPU increases if your clients buy new services or make upgrades. Furthermore, ARPU can be used to figure out if the new changes in your offer turned out to be right. For instance, when you introduce a new service for your customers or modify the pricing scheme, ARPU will increase if your clients liked it!

An example of successful VAS introduced in June! ARPU grew, which means that the existing client base pays you more on average.

Lifetime Value

LTV is used to define a total profit from one customer through your entire business relationship with them. In other words, it is an indicator of how much money a single client brings to your company on average. It is very often applied to calculate the profitability of marketing campaigns by comparing it to Customer Acquisition Costs (CAC). Obviously, you need to get more money from a user than it costs you to acquire them. It is not just a metric, it also gives a business owner the general impression about the quality of their services – the longer your clients stay and the more money they spend, the better your service quality!

An example of decline in customer loyalty for the company. As you can see on the trendline (the grey line), the value slowly decreases. This company needs to find the reason behind it, and then, perhaps consider extra discounts for existing clients?

Churn – Three reports on how your business is losing

“Churn” is an ominous word that makes every owner of a subscription-based business shake in their boots. Putting it simply, the higher the churn, the more revenue you lose from the already acquired client base. There are, however, three churn reports that you can monitor to gain the full view:

Subscription Churn – it doesn’t necessarily translate into the loss of a customer, as they can still have other active subscriptions with you,

Revenue Churn – it is the value of all lost subscriptions and downgrades,

Customer Churn – it means that a cancelled customer has no more active subscriptions.

If your customers have multiple services, the Customer Churn will be slightly different and smaller than the Subscription Churn. In the above example, you can notice the huge churn increase in May. It was probably due to some major network problems with the hosting services.

The Revenue Churn may also have a different shape than the Customer/Subscription Churn, because, typically, pricing of services varies. In addition, the Revenue Churn includes downgrades that are not considered by the Subscription Churn report.

Where can I learn more? Where can I get these reports for my company?

If you would like to have a tool that allows you to browse all discussed reports or if you’re simply interested in these topics, I strongly suggest that you subscribe to the MetricsCube Newsletter. I will be providing much more detailed materials about them on the MetricsCube Blog, starting on July, and everyone subscribed will be up to date with new publications.
